Last month quarterly energy bills hit door mats all around the UK and we wouldn’t be surprised if the cost of your gas and electric use shocked you. If you want to switch energy suppliers then now is a great time to do it. Here are our top tips on how to switch.

Investigate all of your options:

Every year, Which? covers all of the UK’s energy suppliers in their customer satisfaction survey and it’s worth checking out the results. For the past couple of years lesser know providers such as Ecotricity, Ovo and Good Energy have topped the leader board with all of the big names falling to the bottom of the pile.

Don’t get caught out:

Before switching make sure that your current supplier doesn’t have a cancellation fee.

Compare:

Make sure that you have the details of your supplier, your last spend, the name of your tariff and also how much energy you have used in kilowatt hours (kWh). You can then use a service such as Which? Switch or Money Super Market to input your details and compare your options. If you’re unsure of what tariff you should be on you can check out this guide from Which?

Switch:

Make sure that when you switch you have all the details you originally used to compare tariffs. The average saving on switching tariffs on your gas and electricity in on average £191, so it is definitely worth finding out if you can save.
