This November, we’re supporting Men’s Health Awareness Month with a simple message: Service your plumbing like your boiler.

Just like a boiler needs regular checks to keep it running smoothly, your body and mind do too. At Maintracts Services, we work in a male-dominated industry, so we know how easy it can be for men to put their own health on the back burner. But prevention is better than cure, whether it’s your heating system or your health.

Book a Service: Your Boiler and Your Body

Just like your boiler, your body performs best when it’s regularly serviced. Ignoring small warning signs, whether It’s a strange boiler noise or an ache you’ve been putting off, can lead to bigger, more expensive problems later. This includes checking in on your mental health regularly too.

Everyone responds differently to the curveballs that life throws at them. Everyone feels worried and overwhelmed at times and looking after our mental wellbeing is just as important as caring for our physical ailments. Just because the symptoms are not obvious, it does not mean we should ignore them and hope they go away.

This November, we’re encouraging everyone to book two essential services:

  • One for your body
  • One for your boiler

Book a quick check-up with your GP as small checks now prevents costly breakdowns – and while you’re at it, book your boiler service today to stay warm this winter.

Check the Vital Components

Your boiler has vital parts that keep the system running, and so does your body. One of the most important systems? Your heart and circulatory system.

Think of it like this:

  • Your blood vessels are your pipes.
  • Your heart is the pump.
  • Your blood pressure is your water pressure.

Too low, and nothing flows properly. Too high, and pipes can burst, whether we’re talking about bodies or boilers.

According to the British Heart Foundation, there are 4 million men in the UK living with heart and circulatory disease. Many don’t even realise they’re at risk. That’s why it’s so important to check your “pressure” regularly.

Check your blood pressure with the NHS

Plus, imagine your skeletal system of your body is like the frame of a house that is designed to hold the system together and encase all the treasured components.  Your ribcage serves a similar purpose to your boiler cupboard – the casing that protects the most vital components!

Unblock and Protect Your Pipes

Your home is full of pipes that keep everything running smoothly – and so is your body.  From arteries carrying blood to veins returning it, and the trachea connecting the throat to the lungs so we can breathe - blockages anywhere can cause problems fast.

Your digestive system is a perfect example. Think of it like your drains...when they’re blocked, it all gets a bit smelly and things back up quickly, causing discomfort and potential damage if left untreated.

One condition to look out for is bowel cancer. According to Bowel Cancer UK, more than 2,600 people under 50 are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year. 1 in 15 men and 1 in 18 women will develop it during their lifetime.

That’s why it’s so important to check your poo and spot symptoms early.

Use the Bowel Cancer UK symptom checker.

Maintracts Support Men’s Health

This November, we’re proud to support Men’s Health Awareness Month. To do our part, we’re:

  • Sharing vital NHS, BHF, Bowel Cancer UK, and Movember resources via our marketing, social media channels, network and community
  • Encouraging men to book personal MOTs with their GP
  • Raising awareness of important checks and common risks
  • Inviting businesses to share our blog, socials and resources to help us spread the word and promote our ‘service your plumbing like your boiler’ message
  • Donating £5 for every boiler we service to Movember.

P.S. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram to see if you can see any of our engineers joining in the Movember fun.

When you book your boiler service this month, you’re also helping fund life-saving projects in men’s mental health, testicular cancer, and prostate cancer.

Check Your Nuts, Bolts & Valves

For plumbers and homeowners alike, a dripping tap or leaky valve isn’t just an annoyance, if left unchecked, it can quickly turn into a costly problem. The same goes for our own “personal plumbing.” Just like a boiler has key components that need regular checks, some parts of your body need a little extra attention too. For men that includes the testicles and prostate – areas where early detection can make a big difference to your health.

Check Your Nuts and Bolts

Think of this as routine maintenance. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men, but many don’t know how to check themselves or what to look for. A quick monthly self-check (yes, it only takes a minute) can help you spot anything unusual early, when it’s easiest to treat.

Keep an Eye on the Valves

Your prostate works a bit like a safety valve in a plumbing system – if it’s not working properly, things can quickly clog up and cause bigger issues. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men overall, but if caught early, it’s very treatable.

If you’re over 45, it’s worth having a chat with your GP about a simple blood test called a PSA test, especially if prostate cancer runs in your family. Early action can make a huge difference.
