It is believed that as many as five million tumble dryers may have been affected by a fault which can cause fires.

Whirlpool, who manufacture Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda,  have contacted around 3.8 million people informing them of the issue.  The fault, which has already left one family in Guildford homeless, and it has been reported that faulty Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda machines have caused around 750 fires since 2004 (source: Which?).

You can find out if your machine is affected by checking the Indesit and Hotpoint safety sites (Creda owners can check via the Hotpoint site). Customers can also call 0800 151 0905.

You can also check to see whether your machine is affected by looking for a green dot sticker, which will either be in the door area or on the back plate. If you have one then you need not take any action.

Machines with green dots do not need to be modified.

  • Ensure that the room is properly ventilated
  • Don’t leave dryers on when you are not in the house, or asleep
